History is written in green. The Czech Republic entered 2026 with legislation in force that rewrites the rules of the game – cannabis for personal use is legal within clearly defined limits.

What is legal as of January 1, 2026?
The new law gives adults (21+) clear limits on personal freedom. So what can you officially afford?
- Up to 3 cannabis plants per person for personal use
- You can have up to 100 g of dry matter at home
- You can legally carry up to 25 g in public.
- All without the need for registration , club membership or medical referral
This means: cannabis is no longer taboo. It is not a misdemeanor. It is not a crime. It is a part of life.
What does legalization not mean?
At the same time, let's talk about what doesn't change - or at least not yet.
- There are no regulated dispensaries like in Canada or the US yet.
- Cannabis clubs are not legal
- Cannabis remains illegal for those under 21
- Exceeding the quantity or trading outside the legal framework = still a crime
Additionally, a THC limit is expected (probably around 18-20%), but the details are still being finalized.
What if you overdo it?
The new law also takes into account when someone goes beyond the legal framework. And here too, a shift towards greater humanity is evident:
- 4–5 plants? A violation, you will be fined and the plants will be confiscated
- 6 or more plants? A criminal offense, but no longer with the threat of a hard prison sentence – a maximum of 2 years, usually probation
- Over 200g at home or 50g in public? Also a crime, but without automatic registration
In other words: the culture is changing. We are no longer punished for a few grams or three flowers. Finally.
